James Dunham

James is a climate risk and sustainable finance expert with over 15 years’ experience.
James is on secondment from Pinsent Masons, where he advises global investors, financial institutions, and corporations on integrating sustainability into their policies and operations. He has extensive experience implementing international standards such as ISO 32210 for sustainable finance, ISSB, and TCFD, and navigating current and emerging regulations like the EU SFDR and CSRD.
Previously, James led climate-related financial risk and sustainable finance advisory services at Atkins, where he played a key role in establishing the European Investment Bank’s (EIB) framework for managing physical climate risk. He also served as a retained advisor to the EIB’s Environment, Climate, and Social Office, leading a team of seconded experts from 2016 to 2020.
James began his career with Mott MacDonald and actively contributed to the development of standards for physical climate risk assessment (ISO 14091) and adaptation (ISO 14090/14092), and he co-authored ISO 32210 on sustainable finance.
He holds a BSc in Geography (Coventry University), an MSc in Climate Change (University of East Anglia), and an MSc in Environmental Economics (SOAS, University of London). James is a Chartered Environmentalist (Society for the Environment) and a certified Climate Finance Expert (Frankfurt School of Finance & Management).
